Fun Facts

Qin Shi Huangdi was born in 259 B.C.  His real name was Zhao Zheng.  He became king of the Qin clan in 246 B.C. at the age of 13.  In 221 B.C., he became the first emperor of the entire country of China.  One of his greatest accomplishments was in the area of transportation and commerce.  He built roads and canals  throughout China.

While Qin Shi Huangdi was trying to stay safe, what did he do?

He was looking for a way to live forever.  So he invited magicians to his court to see if they could make a special potion for him.  To me he sounds crazy,  because it is impossible to live forever!

What did Qin Shi Huangdi make people use and what did they think about it?

He made people use the same writing, money, and measurements.  He also wanted people to think the same way about things.  Pretty harsh isn't it?  People didn't like being told what to think.

What is Terracotta and what does it mean?

Terracotta is a type of pottery and means "baked earth" in ancient China!

Why did Qin Shi Huangdi build the Terracotta Army?

He built the Terracotta Army to surround his tomb.  He wanted it to surround his tomb because it protected his tomb.  His tomb was discovered in 1974 by Chinese peasants and can be visited today!

Who was Qin Shi Huangdi and what did he do?

Qin Shi Huangdi was a powerful and cruel ruler.  He built the Terracotta army.  He also decided to make the walls into one huge wall.  He ordered thousands of people to make 6,000 life size terracotta soldiers.  Isn't that awesome!
